Setting the Standard

Harmony Between Horse & Rider

Our Mission

Bit and bridle fitting has generally been a process of trial and error for a long time.  Solutions are commonly sought through fellow horse owners via word of mouth or social media. In more recent years, owners and riders are increasingly utilising the services of a bit and/or bridle fitting professional.

However, unlike other equine professions, there has been no central regulatory body or standard setter within the industry to give members of the equestrian public and other equine professionals assurance of the standard of service they may receive.

The Association for Professional Bit & Bridle Fitters (APBBF) was formed to fill this gap and to set the gold standard for the profession. The goal is to ensure that bit and bridle fitters are adequately educated to carry out accurate assessments and make ethical decisions in the interest of the horse, and to enable the equestrian public to identify professional bit and bridle fitters who are trained to the highest standard in the industry and hold all horses’ welfare paramount in all that they do.

APBBF members take a whole horse approach to their work process to help improve ridden performance, comfort, connection and harmony with the rider without compromising equine welfare.
